Trump Tweets That He Won’t Be Attending White House Correspondents Dinner

President Trump just tweeted that he will not be attending the White House Correspondents Dinner this year:
I will not be attending the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner this year. Please wish everyone well and have a great evening!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 25, 2017
The White House Correspondents Association issued a statement earlier this month saying they still plan on holding the dinner.
But with Trump bowing out and several news outlets deciding they won’t be holding afterparties, the status of the dinner is now up in the air.
Trump’s relationship with the media has grown increasingly fractious, having blasted them in a speech yesterday while his administration kept several outlets out of a White House press gaggle. In recent weeks, there was talk in certain sectors about whether this was the year to end the Correspondents Dinner as an annual event.
UPDATE – 5:50 p.m. EST: The White House Correspondents Association has issued a response to Trump, and they say the dinner will proceed as planned whether Trump appears or not.
