Caitlyn Jenner Debuts Her Own Editorial Series About LGBT Issues
Now that Caitlyn Jenner has declared her independence and officially begun living her life as a woman, the world is now curious to see what she’s going to do next. Jenner does, indeed, have a project lined up and she’ll be drawing from her own life experience to help inform others. Jenner has partnered with WhoSay to write an editorial series focusing on transgender issues and the LGBT community.
According to New York Magazine, Jenner’s weekly column is partly a response to criticism that her privilege as a white, wealthy member of the trans community undermines her struggle as a transgender woman; some have questioned whether she has truly suffered as much as racial minorities and less financially fortunate members of the trans community have. That will be addressed, but Jenner has plans for several subjects that are rarely discussed:
I’ve heard every horror story there is in the book. You wouldn’t believe the types of ordeals these people have had, how they have had to literally fight for their own survival. Many trans teens are bullied and abused in high school. It’s just horrendous. Then there’s the other dark side of this issue — did you know that nearly 25 percent of the women in high-end sex business are reportedly trans women?
Jenner will share stories featuring her “new friends” in the series, which is titled “The Real Me.” You can read the first column, “The Journey Begins,” at WhoSay now.
