China Getting Its Own Version of SNL
Live from Beijing, it’s Saturday night!
Okay, no one’s actually going to say that (maybe), but China is getting its own version of Saturday Night Live, in partnership with the company currently behind the U.S. version.
According to Bloomberg, Broadway Video Entertainment (the Lorne Michaels-owned production company behind SNL, 30 Rock, Portlandia, NBC’s current late-night line-up, etc.) is teaming up with the Chinese internet company Sohu to develop a spinoff of the popular and long-running sketch show specifically for a Chinese audience.

Chinese comedians will be selected for the show, which will, like the original version, “feature live music and sketch comedy.”
So now China will get its own version of a show that everyone complains was better decades ago.
