Chris Christie Blasts MSNBC and Rachel Maddow on Morning Joe
For their 10th anniversary show, the set of Morning Joe welcomed New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Having bounced from one humiliation to the next over the last two years, the increasingly moribund Christie put on a brave face for Joe and Mika though things did get strange at times, with Christie offering shots at Rachel Maddow over Bridgegate and talking about “the odd attraction” he and Mika had.
Let’s dive in.
“I think back to your reelection Time magazine talking about having you on the cover and everyone saying this is the future of the Republican party. Do you look back at that time with regret, sadness?” JScar asked.
“No, happiness,” Christie declared to a disbelieving set, before touting his reelection margin. “That’s a happy time.”
It got a little less “happy” when Scarborough brought up Bridgegate.
“Did you ever expect that bridge story when it first hit to expand the way it did?” he said.
That bridge story :D — so droll JScar.
“No. I can’t thank your network enough for that too,” said a joking (not joking) Christie “Your network made a cottage industry for about three months on that. Rachel Maddow, an hour special on this secretary to governor Christie.”
“This is a little awkward,” said Mika “And I love awkward.”
“No it’s not,” Christie shot back who insisted that it wasn’t awkward because just like he was “happy” about his political implosion — the truth would vindicate him here too.
“I knew they were wrong. So you just have to wait history out,” said Christie. “Are we going to talk about our odd attraction?” he asked Mika quite out of nowhere.
Then Mika squirmed — then I squirmed.
“Oh my God. He just did that. He went there,” she said. “Usually Donny does that stuff.”
Christie then spent the rest of the interview fielding questions about his support for Trump.
All in all the show let him off easy. There were no questions about the explosive charges leveled against him by Steve Bannon saying Christie was not considered for a cabinet spot because of disloyalty stemming from Trump’s Access Hollywood video.
