The great Chris Christie vs. Rand Paul debate of 2013 reared its ugly head again this week as Christie continued his latest attack on Paul during a radio interview with conservative host Hugh Hewitt.

Responding to Paul’s Wednesday morning comments about GOP hawks creating ISIS, Christie said, “I don’t agree. In large part, I don’t agree with Senator Paul’s philosophy that was espoused there.” The idea that ISIS’ radical Islamic attitudes were somehow created by American leaders is “just a statement that is not backed up by any type of fact,” he added.

On Paul’s efforts to let the Patriot Act expire as scheduled on June 1, Christie said, “First and foremost, we’ve got to protect the homeland and I think that folks like those who are arguing against this have a severe case of amnesia about what this country felt like and what we experienced in the days after September 11th.”

Asked by Hewitt if Paul has “amnesia or a deep-seated ideology that fears the power of the state of both,” Christie answered “both.” If, “God forbid,” we have another terrorist attack in this country, Christie suggested that Paul would among “the first folks at Congressional hearings… demanding to know why they didn’t connect the dots.”
