Clinton’s Announcement Tweet Averaging Nearly 1,000 Retweets per Minute
After hours of the political press refreshing Hillary Clinton’s Twitter feed Sunday for the much-anticipated Announcement Tweet, the thing turned out to be the afterthought: by the time it was tweeted out at 3:27 p.m. Clinton had already released her introductory video on her website and launched her Facebook page. That’ll teach us!
But to the rest of the world the thing was still news, and Clinton’s initial tweet declaring her candidacy for 2016 racked up nearly 1,000 retweets per minute for the next hour.

President Barack Obama’s reelection tweet became the most popular tweet of all time by the following day, having been retweeted 3/4 of a million times. The honor is currently held by Ellen DeGeneres’ Samsung sponsored Oscar tweet, which stands at 3.4 million.
