CNN Legal Analyst Renato Mariotti Takes a Flamethrower to Fox’s Gregg Jarrett: He’s Making Up ‘His Own Universe’
Renato Mariotti carries the title of legal analyst at CNN. He has a strong objection to that one notable competitor at a rival network should have that same title.
Appearing on Mediaite founder Dan Abrams’ SiriusXM “The Dan Abrams Show” Wednesday, Mariotti lit up Gregg Jarrett of Fox News for offering legal analysis which — in his view — is anything but.
“Many of the people on [Fox News] are not doing anything that could resemble legal analysis,” Mariotti said. “I do not believe that Gregg Jarrett is accurately described as a legal analyst. He says things that have nothing to do with the law, have no basis in fact, that he has no evidence to support.”
Mariotti was also critical of regular Fox News guest Alan Dershowitz, although he did compliment the network’s chief judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano. The CNN analyst told Abrams that he believes that higher-ups make their hires to mirror the network’s editorial principles.
“Generally speaking, a network like that is going to pick people who have the viewpoint they want to push,” he said. “I think that’s how I would describe Fox News.”
Still, in Mariotti’s opinion, Jarrett belongs in a separate category.
“Gregg Jarrett literally lies to people,” he said. “There’s no factual basis for what he says. He’s just lying. He says, ‘There’s a coup, there’s a hoax, there’s a conspiracy to frame Trump.’ I’ve read some of his stuff, and it literally is just incomprehensible, where that comes from. He exists in a different universe than I exist in in the real world. I’m in a reality-based community, and he’s just making his own universe.”
