CNN’s Burnett Pans Sarah Sanders’ Response to Trump’s ‘Breeding’ Tweet: ‘It’s Not Funny…’

CNN’s Erin Burnett and April Ryan were not impressed with how Sarah Huckabee Sanders tried to explain President Trump‘s recent comments about “breeding” and sanctuary cities.

During today’s White House press briefing, Sanders spun away when Ryan and other reporters asked her if Trump used the term “breeding” to refer to illegal immigrants and anchor babies in terms of animalistic reproduction. Since Sanders didn’t directly answer the question, an exasperated Burnett spoke to Ryan and said that “it’s not funny” how the White House press secretary wouldn’t elaborate.

Ryan said that she spoke to one congresswoman who called the president’s tweet “disgusting,” and said that Trump used the word with purpose. As the panel noted how the tweet is consistent with how Trump speaks, Burnett remarked that the use of the word “breeding” invites all sorts of negative connotations, and “all of them are pretty racist.”

Ryan agreed, and she proceeded to remark on how it reflects Trump’s other racial controversies.

“You’re talking about a community that you’re looking down as animals, and it’s ugly. It’s an ugly statement,” Ryan said. “It’s not normal…For polite company, it’s not acceptable. If he thinks Latinos breed, that’s what he thinks, but it’s wrong.”
