CNN’s Kirsten Powers Knocks Heads With Margaret Hoover: I’m Listening to You ‘Smear’ Christine Ford!
A CNN panel segment got tense, Wednesday, after Kirsten Powers confronted Margaret Hoover — a fellow contributor to the network — after what she deemed to be a smear on Brett Kavanaugh sexual assault accuser Christine Blasey Ford.
Appearing on New Day, Hoover — host of the syndicated conservative talk show Firing Line — argued that because Kavanaugh has been subject to six FBI investigations over the years, any major problems with women would have been revealed by now.
“[He’s] a man I happen to know personally. I met him. I know he has high integrity and character,” Hoover said. She added, “Brett Kavanaugh has had six FBI investigations over the course of his life. There would be some other semblance of some other degree of problem with women if this were a past problem consistently.”
Powers, a columnist for USA Today, was visibly outraged — particularly over the fact that the segment was coming to a close and she would not have the opportunity for a full rebuttal.
“Margaret, I just sat here and listened to you go on and basically smear this woman and now I don’t even have time to respond,” Powers said.
“I am not smearing a woman and you know that!” Hoover replied.
“You just basically said, you know him and he didn’t do it,” Powers said. “And that’s irrelevant, and you know that it’s irrelevant.”
