Daily Show: Media Snowes Under Baucus Bill Coverage
Thank God for Olympia Snowe, right? If you were watching the coverage of the voting on the Baucus Bill on Tuesday you know that the star of the show was the “bipartisan curious” Republican Senator from Maine who voted for the bill and against party lines. The media went nuts over here (cue punny Snowe headline) and even the President went out of his way to thank her “political courage.” Says Stewart: “Oh my God, it’s like if Joan of Arc and Rosa Parks had a baby, and then that baby won the super bowl.” And then points out all she did was turn a 13-10 vote for a “pussy” bill into a 14-9 vote. Apparently all it takes to become the new American hero in the eyes of the media is to vote against party lines in a bill that would’ve passed anyway.
