Democrats Call Senate Judiciary Tweet on Kavanaugh Inaccurate; GOP Majority Responds: ‘Baseless Innuendo’

Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee are once again in a public sparring match with the committee majority.

Yesterday the committee tweeted out a statement on the six previous FBI background investigations into Brett Kavanaugh and said, “Nowhere in any of these six FBI reports, which the committee has reviewed on a bipartisan basis, was there ever a whiff of ANY issue – at all – related in any way to inappropriate sexual behavior or alcohol abuse.”

This afternoon Senator Dick Durbin released a letter signed by most of the Democrats on the committee that says, “Each of us reviewed the confidential background investigation of Judge Kavanaugh before the hearing. While we are limited in what we can say about this background investigation in a public setting, we are compelled to state for the record that there is information in the second post that is not accurate.”

The letter is signed by every Democrat on the committee except for Chris Coons and Amy Klobuchar.

The official Twitter account for the committee responded and said, “Nothing in the tweet is inaccurate or misleading. The committee stands by its statement, which is completely truthful. More baseless innuendo and more false smears from Senate Democrats.”
