Democrats Finally Unveil Primary Debate Schedule

FinalDemDebatePoolOnly hours before the first Republican debate began, the Democratic National Convention released its own debate schedule for the 2016 presidential nomination race.

A total of six debates will be held before the Iowa Caucus:

  • An October 13 CNN debate in Las Vegas, Nevada
  • A November 14 CBS/Des Moines Register debate in Des Moines, Iowa
  • A December 19 ABC/WMUR debate in Manchester, New Hampshire
  • A January 17 NBC/Congressional Black Caucus debate in Charleston, South Carolina
  • A yet-to-be-scheduled Univision/Washington Post debate in Miami, Florida
  • A yet-to-be-scheduled PBS debate in Wisconsin

The timing and number of debates displeased the Democratic presidential candidates hoping to dethrone Hillary Clinton, who had hoped for more debates before the first caucus. Politico reports that Martin O’Malley chief strategist Bill Hyers circulated a statement claiming the DNC had made the process “less democratic.”
