DNC Chair Candidate: Democrats Are Suffering a ‘Crisis of Both Relevance and Confidence’

Former Labor Secretary Tom Perez, one of the candidates for DNC Chair, told Chuck Todd on today’s Meet the Press that the Democratic party is suffering a “crisis of both relevance and confidence.”

He talked about wanting to change the culture of the party and how he would be the “organizer-in-chief” if he ends up leading the Democrats.

Todd brought up recent criticisms Jim Webb made to him about the Democrats––namely that the shift towards identity politics has resulted in losing part of their base, and that they also continue to remain out of touch so long as they don’t do enough self-reflecting on past losses.

“I think the Democratic party does need to make house calls,” Perez said. “We have to be the party in all 50 states… We need to communicate that message of economic security.”

Todd asked him if the Democrats haven’t done enough self-reflecting on the election.
