DNC Fires Staffer Who Helps Undercover Reporter Vote In Two States In James O’Keefe Video
Conservative filmmaker and activist James O’Keefe has been known to edit footage of his undercover exposés from time to time, but a video he shot at Organizing for America’s Texas office last month apparently holds up enough for one group in particular: The DNC. The Democratic National Committee felt the footage showed enough evidence of wrongdoing to result in firing a staffer.
Shot in September in the Houston office of Organizing for America, President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign, the video appears to show regional field director Stephanie Caballero helping someone who claims to want to vote in both Florida and Texas. The video was posted online on Wednesday morning by O’Keefe, who is known for undercover stunts, the results of which are sometimes heavily edited.
DNC spokeswoman Melanie Roussell told TPM this video, however, was clear enough to fire the staffer.
“There is obviously a history here of making selective use of taped material, and we will certainly not vouch for the completeness of what was released,” Roussell said. “However, what we saw was enough for us to take the action that we did.”
O’Keefe has said he was more footage relating to the abuse of voting laws, and that he will release these one at a time in the coming weeks as “we challenge journalists to report the facts and not try to pretend like nothing was there, because I am not bluffing when I say that there is even more damning material up ahead.”
