Dog Who Escaped Abuse By Chewing Off Own Foot Receives Surgery

Maverick, the Massachusetts German Shepard who chewed off his own foot to escape his abusive owners, underwent successful surgery Wednesday, CBS reported.

CBS reports that the two-year-old Maverick was “taken in on July 12 after he became trapped in his tether and chewed off his right rear foot. Maverick was emaciated when they took him in, and his legs were covered in scars from being trapped in the past.”

The local MSPCA posted a statement on Facebook thanking everyone for their outpouring of concern and support for the dog.

Maverick’s previous owner was charged with felony animal cruelty.
