DOJ Will Not Compel James Risen to Testify in Leak Case
New York Times reporter James Risen will not be compelled to testify in a leak case, ending a years-long legal battle between Risen and the Justice Department.
For the past few years, Risen refused to reveal his sources in a legal case involving a former CIA official who, according to the government, provided confidential information to Risen, and Risen could have faced jail time.
But last October, Attorney General Eric Holder intimated they would find a resolution, and last month the DOJ said Risen wouldn’t be forced to reveal his source.
But there was still the possibility that Risen would still have to testify. As of today, however, that is not happening, and as The New York Times reported, Risen won’t be forced to testify after all.
