Donald Trump Says Colin Kaepernick Responsible for Falling NFL Ratings
Donald Trump held a rally in Greeley, CO on Sunday at the same time that the Denver Broncos were playing a home game roughly 60 miles away.
But Trump, according to his remarks, wasn’t worried about going head-to-head with the hometown Broncos because NFL ratings are down (in some cases, significantly) from last season.
The republican nominee believes he knows the causes for the drop.

“Two reasons,” Trump said. “Number one is, this politics, they’re finding, is a much rougher game than football, and more exciting. And honestly, we’ve taken a lot of people away from the NFL.
“And the other reason is Kaepernick,” Trump said, drawing boos upon the mention of the San Francisco 49ers quarterback whose National Anthem protests started a league-wide movement. “Kaepernick,” Trump repeated.
The NFL itself believes that Trump’s first reason, the election, is indeed partially to blame for their ratings woes. But they deny that the Colin Kaepernick-led Anthem protests have had an impact. (Although some polling disputes that assessment.)
