Donald Trump’s Hollywood Walk of Fame Star Destroyed With a Sledgehammer

screen-shot-2016-10-26-at-10-32-36-amSomeone in Los Angeles took the act of defacing Donald Trump‘s Walk of Fame star to the next level this morning.

Throughout the real estate mogul’s presidential campaign, people have protested Trump’s incendiary politics by repeatedly messing with his honorary star on Hollywood Boulevard. At around 5:45 A.M., a man dressed as a construction worker came up to Dolby Theatre, and smashed Trump’s star to pieces with a sledgehammer and a pick-axe.

The star was dedicated to Trump in 2007 in recognition of his work hosting The Apprentice. While the Walk of Fame is usually a tourist hotspot, police presence was minimal at the time, and there were only a few bystanders who saw what the vandal was doing.

Deadline spoke with James Otis, who identified himself as the perpetrator and said that he originally planned to dislodge the star and sell it in New York City. Otis said his goal was to raise money to cover the legal expenses of the women who have come out to accuse Trump of sexually abusing them over the last several years.

Despite previous petitions to remove Trump’s star, the Chamber of Commerce has adamantly stated that the star will remain where it is. Police have covered up the star’s remnants with a tent, though it is currently unknown how the Chamber of Commerce will respond to the destruction.

UPDATE: 2:04 p.m. ET: The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced that Trump’s star will be repaired.
