The fallout from the implosion of Elon Musk’s bromance with President Donald Trump continues to spread, with the erstwhile DOGE head unfollowing Trump adviser Stephen Miller on the social media platform he owns.
Musk and Trump have been firing increasingly bitter insults at each other in recent days as the “One Big Beautiful Bill” — a massive piece of legislation pushed by the president — has been struggling to get enough votes in the Senate.
Trump has blamed Musk’s opposition to the bill on the removal of electric vehicle and solar incentives, which have been a multibillion dollar windfall for the Tesla CEO, and Musk has fired back that the bill is full of wasteful “DISGUSTING PORK.” As Thursday rolled on, Musk went so far as to declare Trump would have lost the 2024 election without his help and groused about the president’s “ingratitude.”
Miller, a longtime denizen of Trump’s inner circle who currently serves as the White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor, has been a frequent sight lately vociferously backing the president’s policies, including the “Big Beautiful Bill,” and that seems to have knocked him off Musk’s friends list.
In late May, Miller’s wife Katie Miller followed Musk out the door as he exited his role with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Mrs. Miller had been working as an adviser for DOGE, handling communications, and is now in a similar communications role for SpaceX, according to a report by Yahoo News. Her new job includes setting up interviews for Musk when SpaceX is launching its Starship spacecraft.
According to @BigTechAlert, which monitors what other users major tech industry accounts follow and unfollow, Musk unfollowed Miller on Thursday.
About an hour later, Musk also unfollowed Charlie Kirk, the Turning Point USA founder and MAGA media figure.
Less than two hours before @BigTechAlert posted that Musk had unfollowed Kirk, Kirk had tweeted that Miller was going to be on his podcast on Rumble to discuss the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
