FBI Arrested Dylann Roof’s Friend In Connection With Charleston Shooting

PicMonkey Collage - RoofFBI officials have reportedly taken a friend of Dylann Roof into custody under suspicions of giving false statements on the Charleston shooting.

The Post and Courier reported today that Joseph Meek Jr. hosted Roof at his house in the weeks before the shooting, where the suspected gunman allegedly told him all about his intentions. While the FBI’s charges remain unknown, reports suggest Meek has been under investigation for suspicions of lying to police and concealing knowledge of Roof’s actions.

Meek previously spoke with reporters about his childhood friendship with Roof, as well as some of racist leanings he showed later in life. He also shared a story about how he took Roof’s gun away during a drunken tirade about race wars, but also that he later gave it back once he got sober.

Meek, who is already on probation for possessing a stolen car, said that he called authorities after recognizing Roof from the church’s surveillance video. He admitted that Roof told him he wanted to “do something crazy,” but that he thought he was just blustering around, stating “you can’t tell me you would. I didn’t believe it. I brushed it off.”
