Gingrich: When You’re Miss Universe, ‘You’re Not Supposed To Gain 60 Pounds’
Republican Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich went to bat for GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump again, saying there’s nothing wrong with the real estate mogul’s comments about the weight gain of a former Miss Universe winner.
After giving Trump rave reviews for his debate performance this week, Gingrich spoke at the Log Cabin Republicans’ Wednesday dinner in Washington D.C. Wednesday. During this event, Gingrich dismissed Trump’s remarks about Alicia Machado as an attempt by Hillary Clinton and the media to lure him into a “trap.” From The Daily Mail:
‘You are not supposed to gain 60 pounds the year you’re Miss Universe,’ Gingrich said, agreeing with Trump and suggesting she violated her contact, at tonight’s ‘Spirit of Lincoln’ dinner in downtown D.C.
…He brought up a number of stories about Machado’s past, including a report that she threatened to kill a judge when he charged her boyfriend with attempted murder.
‘This is actually a sympathetic, sincere girl scout of extraordinary decency and great nobility who was really battered by Donald Trump 20 years ago and therefore we should not vote for Donald Trump despite everything else,’ Gingrich said sarcastically.
Clinton brought up Trump’s objectionable remarks during their debate, after which, Trump doubled down by saying Machado “gained a massive amount of weight,” and he “saved her job” by putting public pressure on her. Gingrich went on to talk about some of the unsavory stories reported about Machado’s past, one of which alleges that she once threatened to kill a judge in her native Venezuela.
