Glenn Beck: Ted Cruz Caved Under Pressure From ‘Smarmy GOP’

Glenn Beck speculated that Ted Cruz had capitulated to the pressure of the “smarmy GOP” when he finally endorsed Donald Trump last week.

Beck said that Republican gatekeepers in Texas may have told him that he was risking future support and his Senate seat if he didn’t come around on Trump, echoing reports that Cruz had irked top GOP donors by failing to endorse Trump at the RNC.

Speaking to MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell in an interview aired Wednesday night, the conservative commentator, author, and captain of The Blaze expressed his disappointment that his candidate had not only endorsed Trump, but volunteered his service to help him in debate preparation.

“I’m trying very hard to respect everyone’s opinion on this,” Beck said. During the primary Beck had been an ardent Cruz supporter and among the most fervent members of the #NeverTrump camp. Beck had once said Trump had the makings of a dictator, and went as far as to claim that it was God’s will for Cruz to get elected.

Beck said what troubled him about Cruz’s support for Trump was the “fervor” with which he had done it. He said, “It would repulse me as a man” if he had to stand next to the person who insulted his wife and father and show support for him.
