Google Reacts to N-Word–White House Google Maps Link
Earlier this week, we reported how people discovered typing “nigga house” into Google Maps brings you to the White House. Well, Google noticed and took steps to quickly fix it.
Jen Fitzpatrick, Google’s VP of engineering and product management, wrote a post on Google’s blog Thursday titled “Sorry for our Google Maps search mess up.”
She explained, “Certain offensive search terms were triggering unexpected maps results, typically because people had used the offensive term in online discussions of the place.”
Fitzpatrick said they’re fixing the algorithm so it stops showing up in Google Maps. So now, if you search “nigga house,” you should get a message saying they couldn’t find it.
