Google Straps Street View Camera to Camel

Google recently announced that they strapped a Street View camera to a camel, took it to a desert in Abu Dhabi, and let it go nuts in an oasis, because that’s what Google does.

To capture the shifting sands of the Liwa Oasis, Google Arabia figured that since they couldn’t send a Prius with a camera on it to the desert, they would instead hire the services of a camel named Raffi, a spokeswoman told CNN.

“With every environment and every location, we try to customize the capture and how we do it for that part of the environment,” said Monica Baz. “In the case of Liwa we fashioned it in a way so that it goes on a camel so that it can capture imagery in the best, most authentic and least damaging way,” Baz said.
