Dem Congressman: Why Not Install a Moat Around the White House?
With all these people running into the White House and evading the Secret Service, we need better solutions to protect the President. Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) has the best idea, and proposed one during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on securing the White House.
“Would a — moat, water six feet around, be kind of attractive and effective?” Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) asked Secret Service Acting Director Joseph Clancy.
“Sir, it may be,” said Clancy, before going back to extolling the virtues of installing a higher fence.
While the points Clancy made take historical value into account — the White House is the people’s house, it should seem somewhat accessible to the American public while being totally inaccessible, also moats didn’t exist in 1800s America — a moat filled with lizard-beasts and flaming tar and piranhas would project an image of strength, as well as pure awesome badassery, to our friends and allies.
But, as Rep. Cohen noted, it would probably keep Republicans out: “This guy got further into the White House than some of my Republican colleagues have ever gotten,” he noted, referring to an incident where an intruder managed to make it into the East Room before being subdued.
