GOP Official Uses Robin Williams’ Death to Boost Candidate
Politico’s Glenn Thrush can step aside, we have a new entry for most befuddlingly inappropriate tweet-reaction to Robin Williams’ death.
Responding to a tweet from Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party’s social media director lamenting Williams’ passing, GOP Deputy Chair Chris Fields said if you liked Williams’ 80s work, you should vote for the candidate who would bring back Reagan’s 80s policies (Jeff Johnson is the GOP-endorsed candidate in today’s primary). Points for staying on message, I guess. (UPDATE 2:21 p.m.: Fields has since deleted the tweets; Minnesota City Pages screengrabbed the main one.)

Needless to say this was not the most popular tweet of the evening, though Fields continued to respond to his critics:
.@DJDanielson @ellencanderson Yes! Bcuz real ppl who dont have millions are crushed by the policies of guilt ridden celebrity above all libs
— chris fields (@ChrisFieldsMN) August 12, 2014
Even a former Republican staffer told him to STFU:
@chrisfieldsmn Shut. The fuck. Up.
— Kevin Watterson (@kwatt) August 12, 2014
.@chrisfieldsmn You are an officer of the state party and making an ass of all of us. Don't tell me to watch my mouth.
— Kevin Watterson (@kwatt) August 12, 2014
Fields, apparently, has a history of this stuff.
UPDATE 2:21 p.m.: Johnson has condemned the tweet:
The Tweets last night mixing Robin Williams' death w/politics were inappropriate & wrong. America will dearly miss him
— Johnson for Governor (@Jeff4Gov) August 12, 2014
