GOP Rep.: Generals Who Disagree with Obama Should Resign in Protest
This week, Republican Congressman Doug Lamborn publicly said he thinks that any generals who have serious issues with President Obama‘s foreign policy or his handling of the War on Terror should tender their resignation in protest instead of continuing to serve.
Lamborn’s comments were first reported by Medium and corroborated by the Colorado Independent. At a liberty group meeting this week, Lamborn was asked about supporting the military and troops “despite the fact that there is no leadership from the Muslim Brotherhood in the White House.”
Lamborn said, “Let me reassure you on this. A lot of us are talking to the generals behind the scenes, saying, ‘Hey, if you disagree with the policy that the White House has given you, let’s have a resignation. You know, let’s have a public resignation, and state your protest, and go out in a blaze of glory.'”
Lamborn’s opponent, Irv Halter (who happens to be a retired Air Force major general), quickly issued a statement condemning Lamborn for “encouraging our military leaders to resign when they have a disagreement over policy.” He said, “Someone who serves on the House Armed Services Committee should know better.”
