GOP Senator: If We Lose Election, We Should Confirm Merrick Garland ‘Quickly’

One of the Republican senators who has met with Merrick Garland, President Obama‘s Supreme Court nominee, admitted today that he’d be a safe bet for their party if they lose in November.

Senator Jeff Flake, who made it clear earlier to Chuck Todd that he has serious concerns about Donald Trump, said of course Republicans are “more than justified” in waiting until after the election to take up a Supreme Court nominee.

He said the goal here is to get “the most conservative, qualified jurist possible.

However, Flake added this:

“If we come to a point––I’ve said all along––where we’re going to lose the election in November, then we ought to approve him quickly, because I’m certain he’ll be more conservative than a Hillary Clinton nomination.”
