Last month, we were presented with the real possibility that rap-country rock artiste Kid Rock was going to toss his hat into Michigan’s 2018 Senate race as a GOP candidate.
With early polls showing Rock — real name Robert Ritchie — running competitive with Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow, it now appears that Republican donors are seriously considering backing the ‘Bawitdaba’ singer’s campaign.
During an appearance on C-SPAN yesterday, Senate Leadership Fund CEO Steven Law talked up a Rock candidacy, calling the 46-year-old a “shrewed businessman” who thinks a lot “about policy” and who has done a lot for his home state.
“I certainly wouldn’t count him out and we’d be pretty interested in his candidacy,” he added, before looking into the camera. “So, if you’re watching Kid, we hope you run.”
