As ever, the New York Knicks remain mired in mediocrity. The perennially hapless squad fell to the Cavaliers on Thursday 119-104 to fall to 23-35.
The game aired nationally on TNT. And Inside the NBA analyst Charles Barkley was clearly upset that his network was giving more airtime to such a poor team.
During a highlight package recapping the game, Barkley relayed a story from a recent encounter with devoted Knicks fan Spike Lee — which perfectly articulated both his and Spike’s feelings about the club.
“I was talking to Spike Lee All-Star weekend. He’s dying to get kicked out of the Garden,” Barkley said, referring to Charles Oakley, who recently received a temporary ban from Madison Square Garden.
Then Barkley added, “He don’t wanna watch this shit.”
The on-air swear drew guffaws from TNT colleagues Ernie Johnson and especially Shaquille O’Neal.
“FCC send me the bill!” Shaq said through laughter. “I’ll pay for that one.”
“Sorry, ya’ll,” Barkley said, sheepishly.
