During his Tuesday show, Stern talked about how Trump’s campaign has been in trouble lately as people are taking interest in his sexist and aggressive comments about women. Even though Stern has a friendly past with Trump and never unearthed any of the mogul’s objectionable comments, Stern said he also never tried to keep them secret because Trump’s character is obvious to anyone who see’s the signs.
“None of this was hidden. This is who Trump is,” Stern said. “He was always bombastic. He always rated women. He always talked in a misogynistic, sexist kind of way, but he did it sort of proudly and out in the open; and he still won the Republican primary.
In terms of his talks with Trump, Stern noted that his role as a host is to get his guests to open up and “talk like real people.” Even so, Stern said he never expected Trump would run for president, and it’s no surprise the mogul’s old remarks are “biting him in the ass.”
Trump’s did numerous interviews with Stern in the past, where he offered comments that have troubled critics as they have resurfaced throughout his campaign. Stern, for his part, has said that Trump did tell him he was for the Iraq War, and that the mogul’s “grab ’em by the pussy” remarks were not just locker room talk.
