Illinois Dems Push Bill to Recall Rahm Emanuel Amid Protests Demanding Resignation
Amid protests all across Chicago today demanding the resignation of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, two Illinois state Democrats are already pushing a bill to have him recalled.
Chicagoans are outraged that the video showing the fatal police shooting of Laquan McDonald was withheld for under a year, and despite Emanuel’s apology earlier today for that and promising a serious look at the Chicago Police Department, many are blaming him and demanding he leave his position.
State Rep. La Shawn K. Ford introduced a bill today, co-sponsored by fellow Democrat Mary Flowers, to provide a clear way for electors to recall the current Chicago mayor.
If it is passed and enough people sign onto a recall, a special election will be held to see if enough people want Emanuel removed. And, well, his approval rating in a new poll is only 18 percent.
