James Comey: ‘Even in Private’ Trump Won’t Criticize Putin
President Donald Trump does not only defend Russian president Vladimir Putin in public, according to former FBI Director James Comey. He also defends him in private.
The revelation came during Comey’s interview with USA Today.
When asked about Trump’s relationship with Putin, Comey said he was concerned with Trump because “he won’t criticize Vladimir Putin even in private.”
Comey added that during an Oval Office meeting, Trump even defended his unwillingness to speak ill of Putin saying essentially “we’re the same kind of killers that Putin’s thugs are.”
The former FBI director noted Trump’s words struck him as being unusual for an American president, especially since he was talking to his intel leaders.
It is also not the first time Comey has suggested Trump is not willing to say a harsh word about the Russian leader and hinted about his concerns of having Trump in the Oval Office.
During his Sunday night interview with ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos, Comey admitted that he does not think that Trump is “morally unfit to be president.”
Then, when asked about Trump’s relationship with Putin, he said, “I don’t know what’s behind that. I mean, that’s mystified me even after President Trump became president ’cause I discovered that he wouldn’t criticize him even in private.”
