Jan 6 Cop Harry Dunn Goes Off on Charlie Kirk Shooting Minutes After It Happens: ‘This Is Not OK!’
Former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn — who was subjected to racist taunts as he responded to the Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021 — denounced the shooting of Charlie Kirk just minutes after it happened and compared it to the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump.
The political and media world were stunned when news broke Wednesday afternoon that Kirk had been shot during an event at Utah Valley University by a shooter who remains at large.
Minutes after the shooting — and hours before news broke that Kirk died from the injuries he sustained in that shooting — Dunn made a live appearance on a hastily-organized episode of The Jim Acosta Show.
While both Dunn and host Jim Acosta have long been vocal critics of Kirk, they each denounced the shooting as the story was still unfolding:
JIM ACOSTA: it’s definitely not okay. And, and Charlie, I mean, I will say to his credit, I mean, this is something he’s been doing for years now, going to college campuses, talking to students, there’s a healthy give and take that goes on.
People give him the business, uh, rhetorically speaking, he gives it right back and, you know–.
Not everybody likes Charlie’s views, uh far from it, but you know you don’t take matters into your own hands. This is not– how do you win an argument like this? You don’t win an argument like this.
And I worry about what this means for the future of our country when something like this happens.
I hope that he’s okay. I hope he pulls through this, but the way he was shot, it worries me greatly about how he’s gonna recover from this, Harry.
And to me, this could take the country to a dark place, to a bad place. We can’t have-
HARRY DUNN: I’m praying that it doesn’t, but I mean, we, we are at a dark place. I mean we’ve been on the edge–. I would, a lot of people argue we are already are there.
JIM ACOSTA: We are there.
HARRY DUNN: We are there like I said, we this just happened back in June. We’re in Minnesota. We had, like I said, Melissa Hortman was assassinated her dog, her husband. Where, or if I think it was her husband, forgive me if I’m wrong, those details were assassinated.
We’re already. There. There was an attempt on Donald Trump’s life during the campaign trail. That can’t happen! We cannot have this! This is not the answer.!This is not okay. Full stop!
And I get, I totally get people are incensed and enraged by some of the rhetoric that comes out of people’s mouths. But violence, violence because of it is never the way and it’s not okay.
