Jay Leno Has Some Thoughts on Colbert Joining Late Night Fray
2014 has been a huge year of transition in network late night TV, with Jay Leno out the door and David Letterman on his way out, along with Craig Ferguson, who’s leaving in December. And with Stephen Colbert ready to shake things up at CBS, Leno has some thoughts on the Comedy Central host jumping into the late night network fray.
Leno told E! that he thinks Colbert’s a “real good choice” to take over Letterman’s slot. He said, “He’s really funny and he’s paid his dues. You know the people that do well at those jobs are the people that’ve paid their dues doing similar jobs.”
He praised Colbert’s great work ethic and predicted that he wouldn’t give up the “silliness” of his Comedy Central persona entirely, saying, “I think he’ll be Stephen Colbert and occasionally go into the character when needed. I think he’ll be terrific.”
