Jill Stein Responds After Bill Clinton Says She Was ‘The Preferred Alternative of the Russians’

Former President’s Bill Clinton book tour with James Patterson has been dominated by #MeToo and Monica Lewinsky, but he also talked about Russian election interference during one stop on the book tour.

During a TimesTalks event, Clinton said Russia clearly tried to interfere with the 2016 U.S. election, before saying this:

“Do we know whether it would have made a difference or not? We don’t. We know that Jill Stein, the preferred alternative of the Russians, got more––the difference in her vote in 2012 and 2016 was more than the difference in the election in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. That doesn’t mean the Russians did it, but it makes you scratch your head anyway.”

Stein responded to the former president’s comments on Thursday:

Stein has come under scrutiny in ongoing investigation into Russian election interference and just a few weeks ago said that while they handed over documents to the Senate Intel Committee, “We declined the Senate Committee’s requests that violate the First Amendment rights of political freedom & freedom of association, which are critical to political liberty for all Americans.”
