John Boehner Chokes Back Tears at Taco Bell Event

During a Taco Bell event on Tuesday evening, House Speaker John Boehner began to tear up. Insert lede graf joke about it having nothing to do with one of the food chain’s spicier menu items.

The Republican leader made a brief appearance at the Teens and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America event sponsored by the Taco Bell Foundation with a $30 million donation. Standing next to Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland, Boehner praised the work of the Boys & Girls Clubs and became emotional as he gave his remarks.

“Some of you know how I am about these things,” he reportedly said while choking back tears. “We need to do a better job at educating more American kids. We live in America, for goodness’ sake,” he added.

“He’s so sweet,” Rowland later said of Boehner’s tearful display.
