John Cusack: Hollywood ‘Whorehouse’ Exploits Young Women ‘Like Kiddie Porn’

John Cusack‘s newest film, Maps to the Stars, is a satirical drama about Hollywood and child stars, and in an interview about the movie, Cusack doesn’t hold back on exactly what he thinks of this industry he’s been such a big part of.

He tells The Guardian that the film very closely reflects his own Hollywood experience. With corporations wielding more influence in the movie industry and franchises becoming arguably the most important driver of money, Cusack says, “It’s a whorehouse and people go mad.”

He also finds it a little more than creepy how Hollywood keeps trying to go younger with sex appeal and pushing “old” actresses out of the way:

“I got another 15, 20 years before they say I’m old. For women it’s brutal. Bruce’s thing about if you’re 26, you’re menopausal? It’s only absurd because it’s a little bit further than the truth.

“I have actress friends who are being put out to pasture at 29. They just want to open up another can of hot 22. It’s becoming almost like kiddie porn. It’s fucking weird.”

Cusack is also very politically active, and even shares his thoughts on the surveillance state. He says, “I know that this [he grimaces at my iPhone] can be turned into a microphone and they can be taping our conversations right now. It’s not that I’m paranoid. I know it.”
