John Oliver: Every Single 2016 Candidate ‘Would Be, Tragically, Good for Comedy’
If you’ve watched any of John Oliver‘s Last Week Tonight, you know the HBO host has a pretty bleak view of American politics, so it comes as no surprise that he finds great tragedy in the comedy of the upcoming presidential election.
Oliver spoke with reporters at the Veterans Day Concert for Valor yesterday, and one reporter asked him about 2016. Oliver clearly wasn’t terribly interested in discussing it, but did have one thought nonetheless:
"I don't care, I don't care, I just don't care." – @iamjohnoliver on potential 2016 presidential candidates. #TheConcertForValor

.@JudyKurtz just tried to get @iamjohnoliver to weigh in on the 2016 field. He cut her off repeatedly, saying "I don't care" a lot.

@iamjohnoliver then later says that all the candidates speculated for running for 2016 would make for great comedy. #TheConcertForValor

"They will all be good for comedy, which is sad" – #johnoliver on 2016 candidates #ConcertForValor @WTOP

And seeing as how Oliver’s managed to wring comedy out of some of the most tragic issues of the day, maybe American elections will end up being one of the least upsetting things he ends up joking about…
Oliver did also get to talk about more substantive issues, like how he considers the Veterans Affairs administration to be a “navigational nightmare.” (Oliver’s wife Kate is an Iraq War veteran.)
