Kanye West Clarifies Grammy Comments About Beck’s ‘Artistry’

After a reprise of his “imma let you finish” stunt from a few years back, Kanye West said last night that “Beck needed to respect artistry, and should have given [the ‘Album of the Year’ Grammy] to Beyoncé.” That sure sounded as though he were implying Beck wasn’t a real artist, which was a bit rich considering Beck plays upwards of a dozen instruments.

Monday morning, Kanye clarified his remarks. “I wasn’t saying Beck, I said the Grammys,” Kanye said, in answer to a paparazzo question. “Beck knows that Beyoncé should have won.”

Another paparazzo then asked if Kanye had even heard of Beck before last night, which didn’t make the rap mogul happy. “Come on, man,” Kanye said. “I love Beck. But he didn’t have Album of the Year.”

Incidentally, Beck thought Beyoncé was going to win, too.
