Kirsten Gillibrand Delivers Passionate Defense of Christine Ford: ‘She’s Asking for Basic Fairness’
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) delivered an address on Thursday where she admonished her Republican colleagues for compelling Brett Kavanaugh‘s sexual assault accuser to testify on Monday, on their terms.
The Senate Judiciary Committee continues to ask Christine Ford to present herself before them on Monday, and for the last few days, there’s been a lot of commotion about whether she’s being forced into it while she’s still asking the FBI to investigate her claims. Today, Gillibrand said she stands firmly behind Ford’s allegation, and she lambasted the Trump Administration and the congressional GOP for not doing enough to acknowledge the seriousness of the matter.
“I believe her, because she is telling the truth,” Gillibrand said. “Someone who is lying does not ask the FBI to investigate her claims.”
Gillibrand continued by accusing the GOP of “bullying Ford” by not honoring her request and making her testify so soon after coming forward.
“She’s not asking for extraordinary measures, she’s asking for basic fairness,” Gillibrand said. “Who is not asking the FBI to investigate these claims? The White House. Judge Kavanaugh has not asked to have the FBI to review these claims. Is that the reaction of an innocent person? It is not. We have to get to the bottom of this.”
