Labor Group Introduces ‘The Koch Sisters’ to America

Not many people know who Charles and David Koch are, but to those who know them and don’t like them, the billionaire industrialist brothers embody the trope of Evil Libertarians who use their money to influence elections.

With that, the pro-union AFL-CIO introduced a campaign ad playing off that fear, buying a “significant” amount of nationwide air time to launch this ad featuring…the Koch Sisters.

“We’re not biological sisters, but we’re sisters in spirit,” said Karen Koch, a real-life member of the Michigan Education Association.

“And we’re not related to the Koch brothers, those right-wing billionaires,” added Joyce Koch, whose husband was a member of the American Federation of Teachers.

According to the Washington Post, the AFL-CIO used their databases to find the two, given that it was highly unlikely that they’d find two telegenic, pro-union sisters with the last name of Koch.

(Full disclosure: I once received an academic research grant from the Koch Institute during college.)
