Lawrence O’Donnell Eviscerates POTUS in Searing Rant: ‘Backing Down is What Donald Trump Does’

MSNBC’s The Last Word aired a first-run episode on Wednesday night — the Fourth of July. And in it, host Lawrence O’Donnell provided some fireworks.

In a searing opening monologue, O’Donnell absolutely tore into the man he believes is the “weakest president we have ever seen” — President Donald Trump.

“When the president signed a so-called executive order to reverse his policy of separating parents and children at the border, much of the news media reported it wrongly as a rare reversal for Donald Trump,” O’Donnell said. “The tough guy who never backs down, surprisingly backs down. That’s what some people thought. But the truth is, backing down is what Donald Trump does.”

The progressive commentator cited the president’s settlement of a fraud lawsuit in the Trump University case, his inability to get Mexico to pay for a Southern border wall, and his policy reversal on taxing the rich as matters on which he’s caved to pressure.

“See, Donald Trump doesn’t just back down more than any other president,” O’Donnell said. “He backs down faster than any other president.”

The host added, “We have never seen anything like it. Donald Trump is the weakest president we have ever seen, because no president has ever backed down as often, or as fast, or as completely and weakly as Donald Trump.”
