LeBron James and Cavaliers Meet With Loretta Lynch to Discuss Police-Community Relations

 

screen-shot-2016-11-10-at-3-25-49-pm-1LeBron James and the reigning basketball world champion Cleveland Cavaliers met with Attorney General Loretta Lynch during a visit to the White House Thursday to discuss police-community relations.

The meeting took place prior to the White House ceremony honoring the NBA champs, which was emceed by President Barack Obama.

“Earlier today the Cavs met with Attorney General Loretta Lynch and my senior advisor Valerie Jarrett to discuss steps they’re taking to help build understanding between law enforcement and the Cleveland community,” Obama said. “Part of a league-wide effort to build stronger communities all across the country, including holding open conversations so we can begin to bridge divides and diffuse tensions and see each other as one american family.”

The President lauded the Cavaliers for charitable contributions to the local community. He also cited Cavs forward Kevin Love‘s campaign against campus sexual assault, and James’s campaign against gun violence as helping to bring about positive change.

“These Cavs exemplify a growing generation of athletes that are using their platforms to speak out,” Obama said.
