Lena Dunham: ‘Misogynistic BS’ to Say I Support Hillary Because She’s a Woman

Lena Dunham has been on board for Hillary Clinton 2016 from the start, posting this iconic photo with the hashtag #mypresident the same day the candidate made her campaign official:

This is Hillary reading a text from me that says "with you every step of the way, gurl" #mypresident

Today, Dunham shared some more love for Clinton, noting on Instagram that she visited her Brooklyn headquarters and picked up a bumper sticker on her way out:

That move even earned her shout-out from Clinton’s Twitter account:

But apparently, it also came with more than little invective against her, as can be seen in the comments below that Instagram post. A handful of people suggested she check out Bernie Sanders instead and one follower responded with “forget you, and forget Hillary. You’re one reason why I’m not voting for that piece of trash.”

The backlash prompted a follow-up post from Dunham that featured a semi-nude photo of rapper Lil’ Kim and a message to those who have accused her of only supporting Clinton because she is a woman.

“Hey, just a head’s up: accusing women of supporting Hillary just because she’s female is misogynistic BS- women are smart enough to make decisions based on a number of factors: policy, track record, campaign strategy,” Dunham wrote in the caption. “Yes I think it’s time for a female president but I’m not part of a witch’s cabal that senses ovaries and suddenly MUST VOTE.”

“So go ahead, argue your political POV but don’t insult a woman’s intelligence by acting as though she votes exclusively along vaginal party lines,” she added.

Then, she proposed a new campaign slogan that Clinton might embrace in spirit but will likely avoid in practice.

Hey, just a head's up: accusing women of supporting Hillary just because she's female is misogynistic BS- women are smart enough to make decisions based on a number of factors: policy, track record, campaign strategy. Yes I think it's time for a female president but I'm not part of a witch's cabal that senses ovaries and suddenly MUST VOTE. Plus if I was gonna vote for someone just because she was female it would be this chick, written in on all my ballots always. So go ahead, argue your political POV but don't insult a woman's intelligence by acting as though she votes exclusively along vaginal party lines. As Kim would say "I'm valedictorian y'all in the audience/And I've got nine hundred and ninety-nine votes, You got nine hundred and ninety-nine notes/You know bitch I'm worldwide." New Hillary campaign slogan? TGIF!
