Letterman Looks Forward to Never Wearing Makeup Again in First Post-Retirement Interview
David Letterman gave his first post-retirement interview to Indianapolis Monthly in which he talked about people wanting to lick him at the Indy 500 and how he’s looking forward to not having to wear makeup every day.
After having a personal assistant for all these years, Letterman says, “After all these years of having someone make my calls for me, I can no longer operate a telephone. I don’t know what to do with my hair, either. But I’ll never wear makeup again, so that’s no problem.”
He briefly talks about talking to himself in the shower before doing shows and how uncomfortable he felt when Warren Zevon came on The Late Show and “we all knew he was dying.”
“And the first time Bill Clinton was on the show, I was a little anxious for totally different reasons,” Letterman adds. “Of course, what I learned about Bill was that you don’t even need to be in the studio for that interview. He’ll take care of it.”
As for other retirement hobbies, Letterman isn’t so sure he’d want to do much cycling, saying, “I’m starting to realize that I don’t want to be found dead in a ditch somewhere. I’ll leave cycling to younger men.”
