Massive Brazilian Nightclub Fire Kills At Least 245 People
According to local officials, at least 245 people died last night in a massive nightclub fire overnight in Brazil.
At around 2:00 a.m. local time, a fire broke out at the Boate Kiss nightclub in Santa Maria. While the cause of the blaze has yet to be determined, officials mention that there was a pyrotechnics show going on at the time of the disaster.
The majority of deaths were the result of smoke inhalation, officials say, and others were trampled to death by the large crowd desperately trying to exit the building. The club was reportedly more crowded than normal, as this weekend was the end of summer vacation for many college-aged students.
