Mediaite Passes 650,000 Unique Visitors In October
It’s hard to believe that it has been less than four months since we launched Mediaite.com. We honestly never dreamed we would be seeing this kind of traffic so early in the process.
It is a fascinating time for the media. Opinions appear to be more commercially viable than ever, but is that costing us some of the great benefits of traditional journalism? Who would have thought that the cable news battles would have grown to the point where even the White House enters the fray?
Mediaite has been at the center of these enormous stories and we’re proud to have become the go-to source for news and analysis in the media world. Day in and day out, our small but completely devoted staff create something that makes us all so proud. I want to thank Managing Editor Colby Hall, Editor-at-Large Rachel Sklar, Senior Editor Glynnis MacNicol, Television Editor Steve Krakauer, Associate Editor Robert Quigley and all of our columnists and, of course, interns who have helped us achieve this mini milestone.
Attached is a press release we distributed today.
MEDIAITE REACHES 660,000 UNIQUE VISITORS IN OCTOBER; UP 63% FROM SEPTEMBER
LESS THAN FOUR MONTHS OLD, MEDIAITE BREAKS INTO TECHNORATI TOP 30 BLOGS
New York, NY, November 2, 2009 — Mediaite.com, the website of, and about the media continued its meteoric growth for the month of October reaching 660,000 Unique Visitors with 995,000 total visits and 3.1 Million total page views. Mediaite also broke into the top 30 of the Technorati Top 100 (currently at 32), and is also on the verge of breaking into the top 3000 websites measured by Quantcast.
In addition to its traffic success, Mediaite had a number of “scoops” this month including the Treasury Department’s denial that it tried to exclude Fox News from interviews. Mediaite was also first to confirm that Fox News had met with the White House to discuss their “feud” and first to publish Chuck Townsend’s memo announcing the closure of Gourmet, Cookie, and Modern Bride. Just as important, the analysis by Mediaite’s writers and editors is being recognized and cited by the media at large.
Founded by Dan Abrams, Mediaite has in its first four months been credited, referenced and linked to by the top media outlets such as the New York Times, Washington Post, The Drudge Report, Huffington Post, Time, Forbes, Politico.com, Hotair.com, PerezHilton.com and even The White House. Each of the three major cable news networks — CNN, Fox News and MSNBC — has found occasion to speak about the website. This, with a full time staff of only five.
The site has also been fortunate to have blue chip sponsors such as HBO, IFC, Bing, Sobieski Vodka, Netflix and Aston Martin, among others.
(All visits statistics from Google Analytics, Quantcast. Pageviews from internal server data.)
