Mediaite’s Noah Rothman Hits Kerry’s ‘Slapdash’ Chris Hayes Interview on Hugh Hewitt Show

Radio host Hugh Hewitt welcomed Mediaite’s Noah Rothman on his show Thursday evening to talk about Secretary of State John Kerry’s exclusive interview with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes that aired tonight. “How desperate is the Obama Administration that the secretary of state of sitting down with a 27-year-old on MSNBC to talk to eight people?” Hewitt asked.

After expressing some surprise that Hayes is 27 (he’s actually 34), Rothman, said “it’s not a terrible move” by the administration because “they need to court the Democrats in Congress.” As his first sit-down interview since Sunday’s “Full Ginsburg,” Rothman said it was definitely an “eyebrow raiser.”

Hewitt insisted that it was an act of “desperation” and Rothman agreed, saying it would be difficult to make headway on the Syria issue with Hayes’ “minimal” audience. “The MSNBC audience is very supportive of the president,” Rothman said, but they are not for intervention in Syria. He added that Hayes may be the “most opposed” to action.

Rothman said that Kerry made “really good points” in a “flailing way” on the show, and all that while speaking to a “hostile audience.” To go against the anti-war feeling in the Democratic party, he said, will take more than Kerry’s “slapdash” approach.
