Michael Moore Planning to Show Trump Who’s Boss — With a Broadway Show

Michael Moore seems determined to prove Samantha Bee wrong regarding her claim on Sunday that there isn’t a “smug liberal” problem in the United States.

A day after Bee’s statement, Moore revealed that he was putting on a limited-run Broadway production that will target President Donald Trump. The promotional poster boldly wondered, “Can a Broadway show take down a sitting President?”

The New York Times reported on Monday that left-wing director’s one-man show, “The Terms of My Surrender,” will run for twelve weeks, starting in July 2017.

Moore promised that his stage act would be “a very developed piece of entertainment for people who like to think.” He also asserted that it’s “a humorous play about a country that’s just elected a madman.”

The newspaper revealed that the director’s Broadway production will run at “the 1,018-seat Belasco Theater. Michael Mayer, a Tony winner for ‘Spring Awakening,’ is the director, and David Rockwell, a Tony winner for ‘She Loves Me,’ will design the set.”

Slate astutely pointed out in their Monday write-up on the new play that “although Moore is still nominally a documentarian, it’s become increasingly clear that his favorite subject is himself.” The online publication also noted that he “attempted something similar last fall with Michael Moore in Trumpland, a filmed version of one of his live appearances that went from stage to streaming in only 11 days.” That production only made $150,000 in the box office.
